A colde snowy day. Has snowed nearly all day. We all set around the fire most of the day. I milked and churned and fed the chickens. Josie got dinner. She cooked some beans. The Edmons tried to have a dance to night. It is so bad I dont expect that they could get a crowd. Ben & Josie has gone down there. They walked. I feel uneasy about them and will until they come back.
Franklin has waked up and I will be glad when they get back.

A clear colde day. Ben and Josie come home a while after 1 oclock this morning. They said that they had a fine time at Mr Edmons. Ben went to Renan and to see Charles this morning. Charles is feeling some better now. Hellen & Brumfield & Virginia Harvey come today. They are here now. I got breakfast and milked the cows. Josie got dinner. I sewed some made me three boddices. I have finished 8 little waists for Carries children. I worked the button holes and sewed on the buttons tonight.

A clear colde day. Ben moved the stove from the barn to the cabbin in the woods and cut wood fixin for a dance. Josie baked some cakes. I killed and cooked two chickens. Josie made sand witches and carried up there. Hellen and Virginia has bin here all day. Elsie and Bulah come in here. Elsie gave me some candy and Bulah gave oranges. Virginia gave me a box of candy.
I hope they may enjoy the dance. I had rather they had not had it but nothing else would not do. I am a fraid that there is so many there that they cant have a good time. I am so sleepy that I hardly can write.

A clear day and colde. Ben and Josie and Hellen and Virginia come to the house half past two oclock this morning. We have bin a drowsy crowd to day. Ben went to the mill this morning. This evening he moved the stove and all the things that they had at the cabbin back where they belong.
Josie got dinner. She baked a pudding that we all enjoyed. To night Ben and Hellen and Virginia has gone to Mr Mayhews to a party. Josie and the children are all a sleep.

A cloudy day rained some and sleeted. The ground is still covered with snow. Virginia staid all night here last night. This morning Jack and Irvin come a little while. Virginia went with them home.
I went to Marvins and Kate. Irvin come there. We all eat dinner there. Ben and Josie and the children staid at home all day. Carrie had custard at dinner and Josie had ice cream. We had some tonight at supper. I did enjoy it. Kate brought me a ball of yarn. I want to knit a pair of wristlets for Charles Harvey as soon as I get the kneedles to knit on.

A cloudy day and some warmer. To night the wind is blowing. Ben went to Strait Stone. Marvin went to see Charles. He is some better off a gain. Josie has bin sick all day. I got dinner to day and sewed a little. Miss Smith sent the drugget home to day by Irvin Harvey and Robert Reynolds. I got a letter from Lottie Craddock to day.

A clear day. Ben cut wood in the woods to day. Josie has had the tooth ache all day.
I washed a little and got dinner.
Willie Mayhew come here to night. Him and Ben went to John Hutchersons to play cards. Snow is still on the ground and it looks to night like it might snow before day. I certainly do hope it wont. We have not got much wood at the wood pile. I cut out an apron to night and then I was too lazy to make it.

A fairly good day. Ben hauled wood most of the day worked at something all day. Josie is feeling some better to day. She sewed some. I got dinner. Josie got supper. The first day that we have had three meals this year. I went to Marvin_s this evening. Kate Harvey was there making Carrie a dress. I commenced to knit a pair of wristlets for Charley Harvey. I have bin at work on an apron to night. I intend to give it to one of Hattie Gilberts children.

A bad day. It snowed the most of the day and to night it is raining. Ben helped Marvin strip tobacco this evening. I got dinner. Baked cracklin corn bread.
Josie pieced on her quilt. I finished two aprons that I had commenced. I wrote a letter to Ludy Pugh to night.
Henry has bin complaining all day. They are all a bed and sleep I guess.

We had a storm last night. It thundered and rained and the wind blowed very hard. Ben mended his fire place this morning then went to Renan. He helped Marvin strip tobacco this evening. To night he has gone to Strait Stone to the lodge.
I got breakfast this morning. Ben milked. Josie got dinner and washed dishes fed the chickens and calves. I have not tried to do anything out doors to day. Was afraid I might fall. I got a nice letter from Effie to day.

A cloudy morning and little snow. Ben went to Renan. Come home by dinner. Worked some this evening. Tonight he went to John Hutchersons.
Josie got dinner and sewed some on her quilt. I made a pair of little pants then went to Marvins. Worked the button holes up there. Mr Hutcherson was there. He said that his folks was hauling guano.
I talked with Molly Reynolds this morning. She tolde me that Mr George Reynolds was dead. Died last night.

Warmer and cloudy.
Ben cut tier poles for a barn this morning. This evening he went to Renan.
Josie got dinner. Josie and Edna went to Marvins this evening. I staid with the baby and Henry. I finished making me a dress the first one that I have made in several years. Heard this evening that Ernest and Lottie Craddock was at George Blairs last night. Franklin is bad off with cold yet. Hope he will soon be well a gain.

A clear day and warmer. Ben went to a sale at Walter Murphy_s on George Blairs land. Marvin Smith went to the mill at White Falls.
I got dinner to day killed a chicken.
Josie sewed on her quilt. Finished one ready to quilt. I made an apron this evenin. Ben Franklin is feelin some better to night.
Edna is complaining to night. Hope she will soon be well a gain.

A good day but it is snowing to night. Ben and Tom and Edmons helped Ben cut a set of barn logs to day. They both eat dinner with Ben. We were glad to have them here to night. Ben has gone to Jim Powers to a dance. Josie was sick this morning but is feeling some better tonight.
I got most of the dinner. I sewed some this evening and then went to Marvins. Josie sewed on her quilt this evening. Lee Brumfield passed here and stopped a while. He was hauling a load of wood for the teachers. They are going to try and keep house at Kate Harveys. I am sorry for the girls.

Snowed this morning but it is clear tonight.
We all staid at home to day. Did not eat but twise.
Kate and Irvin Harvey come a little while. I was so glad that they come. They did not stay half long enough. The teachers commenced to board them selves today at Kates. Virginia was sick to day. I hope she may soon be well a gain. Dodson Bailiss come a little while today.

A clear colde day. Ben walked to Renan this morning and got oil and coffee. Marvin loaded his waggon to go to Gretna tomorrow if nothing happens to hinder. I heard this evening that Anna Craddock was dead and will be buried tomorrow. I wish that the weather were so that I could go up there.
Josie got dinner to day. I made me a bonnett. I got a fall this evening the first time I have since the snow.

Snowed a gain to day. It snowed until a bout twelve oclock. It is clear to night. Ben has bin at home alday. He worked on a ground slide some. Marvin did not go to Gretna today. He came down and made pathes for us. Josie got dinner and brought water to night and fed the calves.
Ben milked for me this morning. Ben made the fire in the stove this morning the first time this year.
I got breakfast and washed dishes at breakfast and dinner. Certainly have enjoyed sitting by the fire the most of the time this winter. I have made a pair of gloves two night caps and pieced the top of a pillow to day.

A clear colde day. Ben hauled in a shock of corn this morning. He is very much complaining to night.
Josie sewed on her quilt some today.
I got dinner and washed the dishes. I went to Marvins a little while this evening. Marvin went to Gretna to day got home before dark was well pleased with the sale of his tobacco. It was and awful bad day to go any where.

A colde day partly cloudy. Ben has bin sick all day do hope that he will be better by morning. Henry is sick to night. I have done the cookin to day. Josie had to stay with Ben.

A clear day and some warmer. Ben has bin in the house all day but is some better off to day. Henry is sick tonight. I got breakfast and dinner. Josie got supper. Would not have got any but Mr Walter Carr come.
Josie ironed some. Josie fed the horses and hogs. I fed the cows. William Gilbert come this morning and split some wood for us. Marvin and John Smith went to Altavista to day. Mollie Reynolds come to Carries today. I got the yarn to knit for Bruce Sheppard sent it to day.

A cloudy day raining to night.
Ben is feeling some better he was at George Blairs to day said that Denia Blair was cookin a turkey for dinner to morrow. Mr Carr is here yet. Jim Brumfield come to see us this evening. The Walker land was solde today. Josie ironed some today. I washed a little this morning and got dinner. Jim and Mr Carr and Ben and Josie are playing cards to night.
I got a letter from Ludy Pugh to day.

Heard today that Mr Allen fell in the pit at the barn and hurt him self very bad.
A bad day rained some and turned colde. Ben and Jim went to see Charles this evenin. He is mighty feeble yet. They come by Kates and Marvins.
Mr Carr is here yet.
Josie and I got dinner did not get any supper. Heard to day that all of the Dews has small pox. I am sorry for them.
Henry is right sick to night. I do hope that he may be better by morning.

Rain and hail this morning. The ground is so slick I am a fraid to go out doors.
I milked and that is all that I have done out of doors. Josie got dinner and supper. Ben has bin in doors most of the day.
Henry is sick yet I hope he is some better that he was last night.
Jim Brumfield and Walter Carr went from here this morning I certainly did hate for them to go in such weather.
I have bin knitting on a helmet for Bruce Reynolds. Hope I can finish it tomorrow.

Ben went to see Dr Owen this morning. Got medicine for Henry he is mighty sick yet.
I got dinner to day. I finished a helmet for Bruce Reynolds to day.
I got two letters to day one from Julia Fergerson and one from Lottie Craddock.
Ben went this evening to Ren Worshams and paid for the guano to use this year. Ben is sleeping in my room to night. Edna is with him. Henry is with his mother.

Rain and hail nearly all day one of the worst days this winter. I got dinner and milked and fed the chickens. I was most a fraid to put my foot out of doors. Mr Bailiss come over a little while. Tonight Tom and Chesley Edmons come and staid until bed time. We had soup for dinner. We grown ups enjoyed it fine. Henry is still right sick.

A cloudy day the ground is covered with ice. Ben went to Renan this evening he walked. Tom Edmons come up here to day for Ben to cut his hair.
Marvin went to see Charles to day. I wish I could go.
Johnson Reynolds come to Marvins to change his phone.
Josie got dinner. I washed dishes after dinner. I sewed some on an olde quilt milked and then set by the fire most of the time.
Mollie sent this evening and got the knitting that I did for her. We hope that Henry is some better.

A warm day. Snow and ice melted very fast. Ben went to Renan and to see Charles. Kate Harvey come a little while. The weather is so bad that I have to stay in most of the time. Ben made the fire in the stove this morning. I got breakfast. Josie got dinner. She had a bowl of soup and chicken. Baked tea cakes. We all did enjoy it so much. I washed dishes after dinner. Josie fed the calves and chickens. We had tea cakes and cocoa for supper.

This evenin Josie fixed a box to be solde at Strait Stone School House. To night Ben and Josie went down there. I hope they may get on OK it is a dark and dreary lookin time to me.

I hemed on Carries babys pieces. I enjoyed my visit so much.
I got a letter from Bruce and Thelma to day. Ben and Josie got home from the School House this morning just be fore one oclock. They said that they had a good time.

Some man passed here today and a greed to take the cow that I bought from Marvin. Johnson Reynolds colte is here tonight. He went to Gretna today. Have not heard how tobacco solde to day.

A clear nice day. We all staid at home most of the day. Just at night Ben went to Charless to get his team to go to Long Island after guano.
Mr Owen come to day wants to move to morrow. He will move in the house that Mr Bailiss moved from.
Kate Harvey come to see us to day. Josie got dinner. She fixed every thing very nice. I think all of us enjoyed dinner.
I have not seen any of Carries folks to day. Paul sent me his gloves to mend. I guess I will mend them tomorrow if nothing happens.

A good day. Ben went to Altavista with Owen. They will stay allnight some where over there. Mr Mayhew went with them. Ben carried my calf. Frank Mays went to the Island for Ben.
Josie washed a big washing this morning. She finished a bought twelve oclock.
We all went up to Carries this evening.
A bout all of the snow has gone and it is so muddy that it is most impossible to travel at all.

A good day. Some clouds but no rain. Ben moved Sam Owen here today. Mr Mayhew brought one load for him. Ben is up at the cabbin now helpin fix up his things.
Carrie and Paul, Roy and Hazel was with her. Reese was at school. They intended to make some candy but could not get what they wanted to fix it with and did not make any. Some man come today and got the Wooding cow. Hope he wont be sorry that he got her.

A good day. Ben went for a load of plunder for Owen. They got home a bout three oclock in the evening. He brought his cow. Ben went to Mr Laynes this evening to pay some money that Charles owed him. They are fixin to have a gatherin at the School House to morrow. Carrie and Josie made candy this evenin. They had good luck with it. I do hope they may do well with their sales.
Marvin bough him a cow to day.

A good day very warm for the time of year.
Ben helped Richard Wooding shuck corn. Josie made sandwichs and her and Edna went to the School House and carried them. They went by Carries and got the candy that Josie and Carrie made yesterday and sand witchs that Carrie made yesterday. Josie drove Prince was gone two hours. Did not take the harness off the horse at night. Ben and I and Henry went to the School House. I think they solde a bout all that they had to sell. There was a small crowd there. The roads are very bad yet.
I could not find my glasses so this is wrote 9 15 Friday morning.
A good day but windy. Ben and Owen burnt plant beds. Josie ironed.
I went to see Charles. He is very feeble.
I do hope he may get better yet. Frank Mays and Lee Brumfield and Irvin Lewis went to Chatham to day. Kate Harvey and Mrs Mayhew and Laura Mayhew was at Charles.
To day was the first time that I have bin to Renan this year. I hope to go a gain soon. Chesley Edmons commenced work at Kates to day. Hope he may finish his crop.

A clear morning then clouded up and hailed before twelve oclock. Ben and Owen got up their plant beds and sowed them. Josie baked a cake and got dinner.
I washed a few garments. Lizzie Bennett come to night. I am glad that she came. She went to see Charles this evenin.
I am always glad to see any of them.
Reese and Paul Smith and Roy Smith come a little while this evenin. Reese and Henry caught the little calf but could not manage him.

A good day. Ben went to see Charles this morning. He keeps mighty feeble. Lizzie and Paul Bennett and Reubin Reynolds was here for dinner.
Josie got dinner. She got a nice dinner. Fried ham and eggs tomatoes and potatoes and butter and preserves. She had it all so nice and attractive. I was proud of her fixin so well. I did not do any thing but keep company. Mr and Mrs Hutcherson was here this evenin. I was glad to have them. Lizzie and I went to Carries a while and to George Blairs and staid until bed time. Had a pleasant visit.

A clear colde day. Ben and Owen went to Long Island after fertilizer. They got home a bout dark. Carrie and the children was here to day. Lizzie Bennett went home this evening.
Josie got dinner. I washed dishes after dinner. Josie got supper and washed dishes.
I brought in twenty one eggs to night.
Henry went to school to day the first time since Xmas.

A cloudy day, Some rain. Ben went with Henry to Blairs this morning. Henry went to school. I have lost the smoke house key. Ben brought a key from Blairs but it would not unlock the door. Don't know what we will do about it yet. Ben and Owen went to the mill this evening with corn. Got their meal.
Josie sewed on her quilt. I got a snack for dinner churned and jobed a round most of the day. Ben went with Willie Mayhew to John Hutchersons to night. Josie and the children are all abed and I am going soon.

Rain this morning. Clear by twelve. Ben opened the smoke house door this morning and hung up the meat. We have not found the key yet. Hope we may find it yet.
Josie washed some to day. I got dinner and kept the children. Kate Harvey come a while. I was glad to see her. Ben and Owen went to a cutting match this evening. They cut for Tom Peak at Mr Woodings.

Ben and Owen cut until twelve then helped Marvin Smith shuck corn all the evenin.
Josie did a big washin this morning. I got dinner and staid with the children.

Josie and Edna went up to Mr Owens this evenin then Josie went to Marvins a while and to night Ben and Josie went to Mr Edmons and have not come home yet.
Franklin staid a wake until half after ten. It is now eleven.

A clear day. Ben went to see Charles this morning. He is very feeble.
Ben and Owen cut in the woods this evening. Josie staid at home all day. Miss Mayhan and Virginia Harvey come down here a while this evening. I went to Reynolds and staid all day.
They had killed hogs at Reynolds yesterday. Mollie gave me a mess of meat. They were all well up there. Ben has gone to Strait Stone to the lodge to night. All of our folks has gone to bed and I will go soon.

A good day. Ben and Josie and I went to Mrs Carrs this morning. Josie and Franklin staid with Mr Carr. Ben Mrs Carr and I went to Altavista on business. Got back to Mrs Carrs at two oclock. We eat dinner and come home. Got home a bout four oclock. Henry went to school. Edna went to Marvins.
Lizzie Bennett and Ola and Gordon come down to see us all. I would of bin glad to see them and would of bin at home if I had of knowed that they would come. I was at Carries a little while this evening. Heard to day that poor Charles is worse off want to go and see him soon.

A clear cool day. Had a wind and rain storm this morning be fore day. Mr. Bascome Carr died last night. Ben and Josie went down there started abough midnight.
Henry went to school. Edna and I staid here all day. Ben come home this evening. Owen done the feeding this morning. Irvin Harvey come this evening and got a rooster. Said his mother come home from Java to day.

Ben worked until noon then went to Mr Carrs burial. Josie and Franklin was down there. I got dinner then went with Ben to the burial. Henry went to school. Edna staid at Carries all day. We heard to day that Buck Farmer was buried to day. I set three hens this evening the first that I have set. Mr Owen plowed to day the first plowing that has bin done here this year. We had salet for dinner the first that we have had this year.

A good day. Ben worked on Charles corn house. Owen plowed. Josie washed. Denia Blair come a while this evening. I wrote to Irvin Craddock a bout the cow. Denia and I went to look at the hogs and cows then went to Marvins and looked at his cows and little calf. It is a beauty.
Marvin and Carrie went to Strait Stone this evening.
Heard to night that Mrs Oley Hubbard is dead. Died sudden.

A nice morning. Wind and a little rain in the evening.
Ben and Owen went to Charles Brumfields to help shuck corn. They finished getting up his corn and finished covering his corn house.
Josie ironed the most of the day. Carrie and Roy and Hazel come and eat dinner with us. Josie helped to carry Hazel home. Gladis Brumfield come with Henry from school. Ben and Josie and Franklin went to Mrs Carrs to night. Ben will come home if nothin happens to him.
The children are all a sleep now.

Ben and Owen hauled stalks this morning then Ben went to Charles and worked on his corn house until twelve. Come home for dinner.
This evening he plowed the colt in the garden then got the locus stump up that was in the yard.
Josie and I burnt some brush that was in the garden. Mrs Hubbard was buried this evening. None of us did not go to the burial.

Ben carried me part of the way to Lee Brumfields. I had a good day. They had no company.
Miss Lillian Peak come be fore I come home. I started walkin met with Oscar Brumfield. Grace got his horse and buggy and brought me nearly home.
Ben and Edna come home Josie and Franklin staid at Mrs Carrs.
Henry was with me. Him and Hugh Brumfield played all the time we were at Lees.

Ben went and helped to cut Charles feed this evening. Owen plowed. I got out the beans that the Blair girls gathered last fall they are very nice.
Edna spent the evening at Aunt Carries. Henry went to school. Both the children have bad colds.

Ben and Marvin finished shuckin and cribbing corn this evenin. Ben went to Jim Powers to try to sell Frank Mays horse. Mays shucked corn in his place. Ben brough Josie and the baby home from Mrs Carrs. I heard that Ethel Worsham has a girl born this morning.
To night Frank and George Blair and Irvin Craddock and Jim Craddock come here and staid until bed time. Irvin staid all night.

A warm clear day. A thunder cloud to night and a little rain. Ben and Chesley Edmons and Kate Harvey and I went to Chatham this evening. Irvin Craddock bought a cow here this morning. We passed them twice to day on their way home.
Josie staid at home today. She made her a dress.
We saw Jim and Evylin and Nellie Brumfield to day.

A good day. Ben and Tom and Chesley Edmons and Owen sawed barn logs.
I went to see Charles Brumfield. I eat dinner with Kate Harvey. Josie staid at home and fixed for company to night. Effie and Hellen Brumfield and Lillian Peak come here from school. Tom and Chesley Edmons come they are playing cards.
To night there is a light in the north. I wrote on the wrong page a few nights ago. Mrs Kellie was at Renan. She said that Otie Kellie was gone to get him a new car.
Henry and Edna is in the parlor to night.

This evenin I went to George Blairs. They were shuckin corn there. Carrie and the children come down here this evening. Marvin was haulin wood to day.
Marvins colte got in the pasture with our horses this evening but did not get hurt.

Ben and Owen hauled and cut feed this morning and cut wood for Marvin Smith this evening. To night Ben has gone to Strait Stone to the lodge.
Josie got dinner and moved the dog house and cleaned up the yard and ironed some. I washed a little. Henry and Edna and two of the Owen children played all evening had a good time.

Ben and Josie and Edna and Franklin went to Mrs Carrs. Mr Owen and Ben went to Long Island to meet Owens brother and brother in law.
I went to Marvins and eat dinner and spent the evening. Henry went to Charley Hutchersons and eat dinner. They Reese and Paul Smith Fred and Irvin Hutcherson and Henry played with a calf nearly all day.

Ben cut feed for Marvin this morning. This evening Ben and Owen split wood in the woods.

This evening Josie and I went to Strait Stone. We drove Prince carried Franklin with us. Edna went to Carries.
Henry went to school. Kate Harvey come to Carries and would have come here if we had bin at home. I am sorry that I did not see her.

A cloudy windy day and rain tonight. Ben worked on his plant beds. Owen plowed until it rained.
Josie commenced washing but quit before she finished as the weather was so bad. I got dinner.
Josie commenced making bats for her quilt. To night I mended my gloves.

A cloudy day and some rain. Ben and Owen and some of the neighbors worked the road that the mail carrier travels. To night Ben has gone to stay at Charles Brumfields. He [is] very sick.
Josie washed this morning and made Edna a dress this evening. To night she is sick. I got dinner. I went to Marvins this evening. All four of the school teachers went to spend the night at Mr Willie Mayhews.
Marvin Smiths plum tree is white with bloom. I am a fraid that the fruit will get killed.

Cloudy all day. This evening there was a storm. Lightning and thunder wind rain and hail.
Ben and Owen helped rais a stable at Mr Woodings. Kate Harvey come here this morning. She brough some yarn for me to knit socks for the soldiers. I have commenced to knit.
Josie have not bin well to day. She made Franklin a dress this evening. I got dinner.
Edna went to Carries a while. Paul Smith and Roy come with her home. Henry went to school.

Ben and Owen cleared off place for a barn that they want to build this year. I went to Charles this morning. I stayed nearly all day. Walked home. I come by Kates & Mollies and Carries. Josie had milked and had supper ready when I got home.
I was glad I had nothing to do -- I was tired. I finished my first sock that I knit for the soldiers and commenced another one. Will be glad when I am done them.

Ben carried me to Renan this morning. I staid with Charles nearly all day. He is very bad off yet. Mag had quite crow[d] to day for dinner Miss Alice Wooding Mrs Duckey Kellie Mrs Sallie Strance.
A mink caugh one of my hens that was setting.
Josie killed a chicken and baked a cake.

A cloudy day and some rain. Ben and Owen plowed some. Josie washed I got dinner. At twelve oclock Josie and Ben went to Renan. Lee Brumfield come by here to day on his way from the saw mill.

Carrie and the children come down a little while this evening. Mr Owen planted potatoes to day and Marvin did two.

Charles Brumfield died this morning at half past seven oclock.

A cloudy day and rain in the evening. Charles Brumfield was buried this evening.
He was buried in a quiet decent manner in my judge ment. Rev Padget talked some at the grave. There was a large crowd of kinds folks and friends present.
All went home this evening except Hugh Brumfield. He staid with Henry.
They could not go to sleep tonight for laughing and playing.

A clear colde day the wind blowed most of the day. Ben and Owen and Marvin and William Gilbert hauled rock and laid the foundation of a barn.
Josie put in a quilt this morning we quilted on it some.
Kate and Carrie come a little while this evening. I commenced an other sock to night that will be 5 pair.

A cloudy day and some rain. Ben went to Davis s saw mill this morning for lumber. Plowed some this evening for a potatoe patch.
Josie finished quilting her quilt this morning and got dinner.
I went to see Mrs Edmons this evening and come by Mrs Owens and stoped a while. Heard to day that Miss Alice Wooding has pneumony. Hope she may soon get well.

A mink killed a hen here this morning. Ben called the Edmons boys and they killed the mink. I have had four hens killed lately and lost two settins of eggs.
Josie fixed up her furniture today. I worked a little in the garden this evening and went to Carries a while. Ben built a shelter for the hogs to day.

A good day. Ben and Josie planted potatoes this morning and some peas this evening. I got dinner.
This evening Ben carried Josie and the children and I to Cedar Forest. Henry and I stoped at the creek and fished. Did not get but three fish.
Mrs Car left her home to day to live a mong her children. She gave Josie several things.
I bought her cow paid $50 for her.
Marvin is here to night. I think he is ordering some things for his car.

Josie got dinner and colored some eggs for the children and made some bats for her quilt.
Carrie and the children was here a while this evening. The children had a time hunting eggs. I sowed a few seed in the garden to day.

Hazel Smith is broke out with something the Dr says he thinks it is scarlet fever. Henry is not well to night. Hope they both will be well soon.

Henry did not go to school. There was to be a moving picture show at the school house to night but it is so bad I guess there will not be any one to see it.

The land was covered with snow this morning. To night it is all gone. Ben cut some wood this evening and ask hands to help rais a barn. I hemmed three quilts. Josie got dinner.
I churned and beat up the butter.

Ben had a barn raisin had plenty help and got done before night.
Ben has gone to Strait Stone to night to the lodge.
Josie got most of the dinner. Kate Harvey come and made most of the bread and helped wash dishes and that was a job. Mrs Carr is here yet. Edna hurt her toe right bad to night bringin in some wood and dropped a piece on her toe.
Oh I am so glad the barn is raised. I thank all that helped.

Ben and family and Mrs Carr staid at home all day. I went to George Blairs. They were all well but Cordie. She had a bad colde and did not go to Sunday School. Otho and Sallie come with them home from school. Claud Hendrix and Nathaniel Marshal was there. Marvin Smith and Paul Smith went to Sunday School.
Reese was not well enough to go. I come home early and fed my chickens and milked the cows.

A cloudy morning and commenced raining a bout 9 in the morning. Ben and Owen had commenced to plow but had quit. Tom Edmons come at twelve for Ben to cut his hair the[n] he helped Ben chink the barn until they got done.

I did not have but one setting. Virginia got them.

A rainy morning clear this evening. Effie Brumfield Mollie Reynolds and [I] went in town this evening. Went to see the moving pictures. We went a gain to night. Willie and Mary went with us.
I think Richmond a mighty pretty place.
We went in the green house and looked a round. There is lots of pretty plants there.

Willie Effie and three children Mollie and I went went to College Hill Park and saw a merry go around and dip to dip. Will and the children rode a round I don't like to look at them. We are all at Willies to night

A good day. We Mollie and I are at Willies.
Went down town early and Mollie bought some things then we started for the boat. Went on street car a mile or so then on the boat. Eat supper and had a berth. We had fish and steak cauiflowers and lettuce salid ice cream and cake and coffee for supper. Was all night and until seven next morning getting to Portsmouth.
This wrote the 17th. I could not find a pen or pencil last night.
A cloudy day. Come off boat this morning. Willie left us at landing. Henry Brumfield met us and went with us to Howard Fergersons.
We eat breakfast and dinner at Fergersons then went to Va Beach and Cape Henry. Saw lots of things new to us. Fergersons went with us to night. Three ladies Julias friends come also Henry Brumfield.
We had a pleasant time.

Crossed on the boat twice went to Hampton Roads could not see the aviators after we went. They were not flying this evening.

None of us caught any thing to keep. Cordie and Isla caught a fish a peice but did not get them out of the pond. Denia went to see Lottie Craddock to day. Frank and George went to Danville to night.

I went to Blairs late this evening. They were all well. Sallie Blair was there. Did not see Cordie or Nettie. They were at Ren Worshams.

Ben and Paul worked until dinner then went to Strait Stone. The Odd fellows had a lecture this evening and the ladies solde ice cream. There was a big crowd there.
Josie staid at home with Franklin.
Marvin brough cream home. Josie went up there and got some. She did not want to go.
Ben went back to Strait Stone tonight. We expect Mr Turner to come with him home. Josie is upstairs preparing a room for him.

Mr Turner staid here last night. I like what I know of him fine. Paul Bennett went to Whittles today. Henry Blair carried Mr Turner to Long Island this morning. Ben and family and I went to George Blairs this evening. They had a lot of company. Earnest and Lottie was there. Lizzie and Earl and Lonnie Bennett come while I was there. Denia was sick. Ethel and Wren and family was there. To night Ben has a head ache. Hope he will be better by morning.

Ben worked tobacco half of the day then cut wheat for Marvin this evening.
Josie got dinner. I churned and then worked the sweet potatoes and pea nuts

Josie sewed all the evening. Carrie got Hazels pictures to day. She is not pleased with them. I am anxious to see them.

Clear most of the day a sprinkle of rain this evening. The men finished workin over their tobacco to day and cut some wheat.

Josie and I and the children went to Marvins this evening. Ben and Josie and Paul Bennett went to Mount Airy to night to an ice cream supper.
Nat Woodings car broke down to day he was at Mr Edmons. Ben let him have his to make his round on. He brought it back be fore night.

Josie ironed some. I got dinner. Denia come a while this morning. Kate and Lee and two of Lees children come a little while this morning. Lee was looking for tobacco plants.
I went to Marvins a little while this evening. We got supper before night today and Ben and Josie and the children all went to Jim Powers and have not got back yet.

A good day. Ben cut Kates wheat to day.
Josie staid at home and worked hard all day. To night she is very much complaining with her mouth and jaw hurting. Paul Bennett carried Nettie Blair and I to Mr Jess W pond. We did not catch any thing. I bough a fish that a col woman caught. It was a fine one. We come back a bout twelve.
I stoped at Mr W Woodings and Bookers tryed to get grated pine apple. Could not get it.
Ben tonight is at Powers.
A good day. Ben cut wheat at Jim Powers to day. Mr Power brought to[sic] reaper home to night.
Paul Bennett worked on the barn til noon. Then he went to Mr Mayhews after ice. The ladies of Renan neighborhood sold cream at the school house to night. Miss Fannie Power come with Ben. They are all gone to the school house now.
Josie worked hard all day fixin her cream and cakes. I do hope they may have luck and sell their cream.
Mr Bailiss come here this evening. His horse got cut in the wire.

A good day. Miss Fannie Power staid here last night. Ben went to Mr Bailiss's this morning and sewed up a cut on his horse.
Ben and family went to Robert Hubbards to day. Fannie went home.

We had a good shower this morning it was badly needed. Ben and Paul replanted tobacco all day after it quit raining.
Josie and Ben went over to the school house to get the things that was left Sat night. I worked a little in the garden.

A good day. Ben planted some beans this morning then they plowed corn for Mr Owen. Josie got dinner. Mrs Owen gave us some scraple so she knowed what to cook. I washed a few things this morning. Henry and Edna helped wash some guano sacks.
I finished getting up the onions this evening. Henry and I thinned the corn on the branch. Beatrice Owen brought a dress for Josie to make this week.

A good day. Ben and Owen finished getting up wheat and rye this morning. Ben and Marvin went to Hubbards this evening. Josie finished Beatrice Owens dress this evening. I got the dinner.
This evening Grace Brumfield and I went to the river fishing. Caught eels.
Got home at dark. Josie had milked and got supper. I was glad. I was tired. I got a letter from Mary Brumfield. I am glad to hear from them.

Had a good rain to day. Ben and Paul chinked the barn. Josie ironed and got dinner. We set by a fire this evening and mended some things that we had put off.
I have not seen any of Marvins people to day or heard from them.
Paul has gone to the school house to night to the rehersal of a play.

A good day cool and windy. Had a good shower last night. Josie staid at home and ironed and got dinner. Paul thinned corn. Ben went to the meeting of the School Board. Henry and Edna and I went to White Falls fishing caught several fish.
To night Ben has gone to Strait Stone to the Lodge. Paul has gone to the school house the rest of them has gone to bed.

Henry and I staid at home. Gladis and Hugh Brumfield come. Kate and Irvin Harvey come. They were here for dinner I was glad that Kate come. She had not bin here in a long time be fore.
I went to Willie Mayhews to an ice cream party. The cream was fine I did enjoy it so much. I come home on Mr Bob Starkeys car was glad of the ride. Heard that Nannie Reynolds has a girl born to day.

A good day. Ben went to Strait Stone and Cedar Forest hunting peas to sow. He got some from Lee B. Josie washed a big washing this morning. I got dinner. This evening I went to Posey Reynolds to see the new baby.
There was a house full of company there.
Did not see Mollie Reynolds she was gone to Jim Thompsons.
We bough war stamps from Irvin Lewis to day. Tom Starkey come by here on his car and brough me home from Johnson's barn.

A good day. Ben and Owen and Paul plowed in peas. Josie got dinner and ironed. I went to White Falls did not catch many fish. Marvin Smith carried Henry and I. Reese plowed while he carried us. We walked as far as Jim Thompsons.
Tonight Ben and Josie went with Paul to the school house.
Denia Blair come to Carries this evening. She brought me some snaps. I am glad of them.

A good day and very warm. Ben and the children went to Strait Stone to Sunday School. Josie and I staid here and got dinner. Ben brough ice from Mr Thompsons. Josie made cream. Marvin and Carrie and all the children come and brought custard ready for freezin. The[y] made two freezers full. It was all good and we all enjoyed it so much. While we were eating Mr Mayhew and Dews and Owen and Board Dews all come. We had a plenty for them all.
Some of them played croquet.

Rain in the night. Clear to day and wind blowin. Josie got dinner. She cooked cabbage and potatoes made ice cream. Ben went to Strait Stone for the ice. Ben and Owen and Paul plowed in the corn finished laying by Bens and commenced on Owens. Josie went to see Nannie Reynolds and the baby. Went over to see Mollie and Jane.
Virginia and Delma Owen come this evening. The children and I chopped the grass out of the path this evening.

The men folks plowed in the corn. Marvin got up hay. Josie washed.
Mrs Owen and Mrs Winston and Hattie Gilbert all gave us a mess of snaps to day. We have got good neighbors.
This evening Henry and I walked to Mr Creasys fish pond. The water is so low that you cant fish in it to catch anything.

A good day. Ben stacked his oats to day and finished plowing corn for him self and Owen. Plowed some in the garden. Josie ironed and got dinner most all of it. I got a new dress. Alma Bennett sent it this evening by mail.
I went to Carries a while and then to Posie Reynolds. I carried Mrs Rice a bonnett that Alma Bennett made the bonnett. Carrie Smith furnished the material and gave it to Mrs Rice. Posie and his mother was gone to Chatham.
I had a letter from Ola (Bennett) Jefferson .

I had fried chicken and that was all. This evening Ben carried Henry and Edna and I to White Falls. Very much a gainst his will.
I caught enough fish to make a dish for supper. Mr Carrington Hubbard was here a while this evening. I did not meet him [ink mark] Well I went to sleep and made my mark.

A good day. Ben put in his flue eyes to day. Owen went to the mill and got flour. Henry and I went with him.
The river was up so we could not fish. We come to Creaseys pond and staid a while then come to Kate Harveys. Marvin met us there and brought us home.

Denia Blair come to see us a while this evening. Ben has not come in to night. He is attending to some of the cattle.

A good day. Ben went to Mr Edmons this morning. He went with Marvin Smith all of the rest staid at home. Reese and Paul come and played with the children. Marvin and Carrie and the little children come a few minutes on the car and carried the boys home.
We had butter beans for dinner. Mrs Owen gave them to us. Josie got dinner. I got breakfast and milked and churned. I have not bin well today. Hope I may feel better by morning.

A good day. Ben and Paul and Owen dobed on the barn. Josie and Edna and Franklin went to Mr Jim Powers. Henry and I staid at home and done what was most needing to be done.
Tonight Ben and Paul and Josie has gone to the school house. Chesley Edmons come home to finish his crop. There was several of the boys had to start to camp to day.

I went with George and Denia and Ethel and Henry to Mr John Reynolds to see olde Mrs Blair. Shes very feeble. Isla come with us home. We had a good trip nothing happened to the car.
Henry brought me home. I hope I am thankful for all the kindness that is shown me.

We got home in good time to milk and feed the hogs. Josie had corn batter bread for supper and we did enjoy it.

Josie got dinner. She made a stew and had snaps and cymblins and corn all good. Mrs Owens come a while. We all went and looked at the garden then to the tobacco ground to see the tomatoes and water mellons and bean patch.
I went to Marvins a few minutes. Their cow is sick. I wrote to Evylin Brumfield today.

A good day. Ben and Owen and Paul pulled leaves to day. Marvin Smith and William Gilbert (col) helped them. Nearly all the children that was big enough handed leaves. This evening Fanny Emerson Josie and I helped some. Josie got dinner. She cooked snaps and beets and butter beans and corn. Mrs Owen sent her the corn.

A clear day and very warm. Ben finished curing his primings to night.
Paul suckered tobacco. Mr Owen went to the mill did not get his grinding. Josie washed the breakfast dishes and ironed and got dinner and washed the dinner dishes and ironed most of the evening. I got breakfast and called them to eat then I milked three cows and watered hogs at three different places then I gathered some butter beans and helped to shell them. Then fixed the milk ready to churn then cut a bucket of cucumbers then churned fixed to wash some.
After dinner I washed a bout 40 garments then put the cucumbers in brine and salted the butter and fixed it ready for use. Then rested a while then milked eat supper and helped wash dishes and ready to go to bed.

Ben and Paul and Owen helped pull leaves at Marvins this evening.
Henry and Reese went to Johnson Reynolds this evening and got some nice peaches. Will have them to put up in the morning. I am very glad of them.

Josie got dinner. We pealed the peaches that Mollie give us. Had peaches and cream for dinner and snaps and corn all cooked good and I did enjoy my dinner.
Talked with Denia Blair to night over the phone. She said that Cordie was going to Richmond tomorrow. I certainly do hope she may have a good time and [be] benifited by going.

Henry and Cordie Blair started to Richmond this morning. I do hope that they had a good trip. Josie got a letter from Mary Brumfield saying that she would not come here until September. We look for Thelma and Julia tomorrow hope that they may come.

Josie gathered some grapes this morning. We picked them off the stems to night.
Mollie sent over and got some grapes. Jane and Clifton come. I saw Alma and Lonnie at Chatham.

A good day. Ben plowed up the potatoes and Josie picked them up. Ben sowed turnip seed to day. Paul tied some primings. Josie got most of the dinner. I churned went after some tomatoes. After dinner I put up three cans and killed two chickens and cut the cucumbers and put them in brine.
Paul and Thelma went to Dick Woodings to a stew to night. I hope they may have a nice time.
Julia and Henry and Edna are in my room and talk so much that I am in the hall writing.
Chesley Edmons cut a house of tobacco today.

Ben and family went to Jim Powers carried Thelma and Julie to the Island. They started home today. I wish they could have staid another week.
I staid at home most of the day went to Marvins a little while.
Ben broke his car to day. I am very sorry.
Paul Bennett went with Marvin to Sunday School to day.
Rain this morning. Clear tonight. Ben Paul and Henry and I tied primings this morning and Josie helped this evening as long as we could tie. They dried out. Josie got dinner.
Ben and Paul went to Lee Brumfields this evening. The buggy wheel broke as they come home.
I went to see Pauls tobacco this evening for the first time. It looks good to me. I am glad of the good crop that is on the place hope it can be taken care of and may do all a lot of good.

Ben and Paul suckered tobacco. Josie got dinner and canned some tomatoes. This evening she scrubbed the cook room floor.
I went to see Mollie Reynolds. She is not well but a bout.
I did not see Miss Kate or Mrs Jane they were taking their evening nap. Doris Brumfield and Christine Reynolds and Delma Owen come to Marvins a while this evening.

A good day. Ben and Paul worked at home until twelve then went to Mr Dews and tied leaves.
Josie washed a big washin of clothes. This evening Mag Brumfield and four of the children come. I was glad that they did come her baby is just fine. Carrie and the little girls come. I was glad that she could get off. Marvin and the boys went to Altavista.

Josie went to Mr Jim Powers today and got damsons. She carried all three of the children with her. Denia Blair come over here this evening. We went up to see Carrie. She was gone to see Julia Fergerson and Alice Thompson. We staid at Marvins a while and then went home.

A good day. They cut a house of tobacco for Mr Owen to day. Brand(?) and James(?) Dews helped them. Josie made some damson preserves this morning and ironed some. I canned a few tomatoes this evening.
Josie and I was eating water mellon this evening when a car come. Jim B and Zack Adkins and Mr and Mrs Smith was on it. They come in a few minutes.

Heard to day that Kate Reynolds and Clack Hubbard was married yesterday.

A day that the men folks could work most of the time. They moved tobacco and scattered sticks ready for cutting. We all tied primings and finished. Josie got dinner.
I went to the tomato patch this evening. Could not get many tomatoes. Brought a water mellon home. We cut it. It was fine.
It is raining now hope it may stop soon. Ben went to Ren Worshams this evening and to Strait Stone this morning. Paul carried his mother to Lee Brumfields this morning. Guess she is at Kate Harveys to night.

I staid at home til three oclock then I went to Marvins. I had bakers bread and cheese for dinner. Carrie sent them to me.

A good day. The men folks moved two curings of tobacco and cut two rooms of green tobacco.
Josie picked up some apples and got dinner. I churned and picked some beans this morning. In the evening I went to Marvins a few minutes and picked a few more beans then went to the tobacco ground and helped to load the waggon and to the barn and helped to unload so as to hurry Ben and Paul. They wanted to go to Altavista and I did not want them to be late.
Josie had supper ready when we got to the house. While we were eating, Denia come and brought me a pan of light bread. I certainly was glad of the bread. Was sorry that Denia had so much trouble but I do appreciate it.

A good day. Ben and Owen cut corn and the children helped some. Josie ironed and baked a cake. I went to White Falls. Grace went with me. We drove Prince. We caught several fish. Stopped at Mount Airy a while. Kate thinks I am awful a bout going fishing. I know it is foolish but I cant help but want to go.
I try to pay for all my trouble. I work all I am able and not all for my self. I try to not disgrace them in any way but I know that some of the children are ashamed of me.

Carrie cooked the first meal on her new range this morning. Tobacco was so dry that we could not strip this morning. We had turnip salit for dinner and cornbread.

A good day. The men folks plowed this morning. This evening Mr Owen raked pea vines. Ben went to Mr Bailiss. Josie and I stripped a little tobacco. We got our dinner this morning before we went to the barn cooked snaps and baked bread.
Come home at twelve and made coffee.
In the evening the tobacco dried out so we could not tie it. I picked up some apples and gathered some snaps. We went to Carries and strung our snaps. Come home. Josie got supper. I fed the chickens. Henry and I fed the hogs. We had to shuck the corn then I churned.
Ben has just got back from Bailiss and eat his supper.

Cloudy today and some rain. Ben got up part of his pea hay and part got wet. We got dinner when we got breakfast thought we would strip tobacco. It was so dry that we could not handle it. Josie sewed some.

Reese and Henry helped me and we built a pig pen and got up the pigs and they got out.
Ben and Owen went a squirrel hunting. Killed four. Ben kept 2 and then would not skin them. So I did it.

We that was Paul and Owen and Josie and Henry Brumfield and Luke and Norman Owen all stripped tobacco. To night Ben and Paul has gone to the barn to rebulk some tobacco.
Josie gave me a nice lot of candy a present from Josie and Carrie. Tomorrow is my birthday. I will be 72 years olde.

Josie come home to get dinner. She fried chicken and baked cocoanut pies. A bout twelve Gordon and Alma and Ola and Frances Bennett come for dinner. After dinner Bruce Reynolds and his mother come a few minutes. I was glad to see them all. Ben sowed wheat most of the day. This evening Nat Wooding phoned for Ben to come to Reynolds mail box and help him work on his car. Ben went. They could not fix it. They brought it here. Sidney Reynolds come after Nat and carried him home.
Paul finished sowing wheat. Mollie gave me a nice box of candy a birth day present. Marvin Smith paid our taxes this evening. Paul and Ben has bin at the barn to night hangin and putting tobacco in the pit.

Paul Josie and Henry and I gathered up the peanuts and washed them. We made a nice lot of them. I finished the socks that I knit for Charley Harvey. Irvin come for them.

A cloudy day and a little rain. Ben worked on his waggon this morning. This evening he went to Level Run for a load of lumber. Paul Bennett plowed and fixed rows for straw berries. Josie planted the vines.
Mr Owen and his crowd stripped tobacco. I helped a little before dinner.
Josie got dinner. She had to cut her wood to cook with. This evening Josie and I both helped on the tobacco.
We are out of flour. Ben has gone to Thompsons to night to get some. We have wheat at the mill but the miller is not well enough to grind it.
Henry has caught two rabbits in his traps. He is very proud of that.

A cloudy day. Ben hauled some stalks and put them on the wheat land this morning. All the rest of us tied tobacco. This evening Mr Owen went to the mill for flour. We had corn bread for breakfast this morning. I know we should be thankful for that but we have not bin used to it and do not like it.
We tied all the tobacco that was in the pit then I went to Carries and Ben and Paul went squirrel hunting. They killed nine squirrels.
Kate Harvey come a few minutes this evening.
To night Ben has gone with Marvin to Strait Stone.

A cloudy day most of the day and very warm for the time of the year.
We all staid at home til twelve. Paul went a way this evening I don't know where. Ben and Josie and the children went to Marvins.
There has bin very little passing here today. There is so much sickness and death in the country I think every one ought to stay at home all that they can.
William Baily was buried today.

A cloudy day no rain.
Ben Kate and I went by Java and on to Chatham. Kate put in a plea for Chesley Edmons to come home and strip his tobacco.
Josie milked the cows for me this morning. Paul and the Owens stripped tobacco and Josie helped what she could. Ben and I got back a bout dinner time. Eat dinner. Ben went to the saw mill. I tied tobacco got done be fore night. I went to Marvins a little while.
Heard today that Clifton Reynolds is very sick hope he may be better soon.
Had a Letter from Jim today. I am glad that he was well. Hope he may stay well.

A cloudy day and a little rain here. Ben just got in from Altavista. Says that it rained hard there. He went for a load of lumber. The rest of us stripped tobacco all day. We finished a curing for Mr Owen and commenced one for Paul.
Heard today that Doris Brumfield broke her arm yesterday. I am so sorry for her and her mother. Would go to see her if it wont for there is so much sickness a bout.
Heard to day that Mr Charles Rorrer was buried to day. He was a soldier in the Civil War.
Carlton Trent carried the mail yesterday and to day.

A cloudy day and the wind is blowin to night.
Ben and Owen sawed logs to carry to the saw mill. The rest of us stripped tobacco all day. Josie got dinner. Mr Lowel Witcher come and eat dinner with us. Henry Blair come and looked at the tobacco.
Ben and Josie and Paul and Owen put tobacco in the pit tonight. Henry is complaining of a sore throat to night.
It is raining to night hope it will quit soon.

A good day. Ben got Marvins horses and hauled logs and worked four horses to the truck. Paul helped to load on the logs.
Paul carried Dr Owen to see Mr Dews this morning. He had Bens car. Willie Mayhew has a very sick childe the Dr was to see it today. Clifton is still very sick. Marvin and Carrie went to see Doris Brumfield this evening. Josie and I and the Owen children and Henry finished stripping a curing of tobacco for Paul. We finished a bout twelve. This evening Cordie Blair and Doratha Worsham and Ada Hutcherson come a while. Ellen Bailiss and Louise Hutcherson come to bring some patterns that Josie let Mamie have.

A good day colde tonight. Ben and Owen hauled logs.
Paul carried Edna and Henry and Reese and I to White Falls. I caught 4 fish and two eels. Josie got dinner. She went to Marvins a little while this evening. I tried to get some meat at Mt Airy this evening. Could not get it.
To night Ben and Owen and Paul went to the barn to put some tobacco in the pit.

A good day. Ben and Marvin has hauled logs and lumber all day today. Mr Owen and Paul shucked some corn this morning. This evening they put a load of tobacco on the waggons. William Gilbert helped them.
Josie sewed some. I got dinner except making the bread. Josie made that.
Late this evening I went to Carries. She was bathing the children and complaining of the toothache. We heard this evening that Mr Eujean Shelton died this morning.
To night Ben and Owen and Paul went to the barn to put on a load of tobacco. They intend going to Gretna Monday.

A beautiful day. There was a killing frost last night. We all staid at home until after twelve. Ben and Josie and Edna and Franklin and Paul went to Mr Powers. Henry and I went to Marvins. All at home a gain to night. Ben and Owen and Paul want to start to Gretna in the morning at three oclock.
Alma Bennett was at Gretna this evening. She talked with Carrie Smith. I was very glad that she did. I am always glad to hear from them.

A good day.
We got up this morning at two oclock. The men folks fed. Josie and I got breakfast and they eat and got off to Gretna with two loads of tobacco. There was so much tobacco at Gretna they could not sell.
They got home nine oclock at night. Josie got dinner then went to Marvins and stayed with Carries children while Marvin and Carrie went to Altavista. Carrie had some work done on her teeth.
I picked some dried beans. To night Josie and I shelled two buckets full. Before they were shelled Kate Harvey come a few minutes. She wanted to see Ben.

A good day. Ben is one of the Judges at Elections. He was at Renan all day. Mr Owen hauled some wood. We needed it mighty bad.
Josie and I and Reese put some tobacco in the pit. Josie staid at home and got dinner for her self and Edna and Franklin. Marvin carried Reese and Henry and I to Banister River to fish. We caught twenty one fish.
Carrie gave us a nice mess of steak we had it for supper.
Heard today that Max Creasy died this morning. I am sorry for the family.
I have shelled a few beans to night. Am most a sleep now. Heard today that Jessie Hutcherson is at home on furlow for 48 hours.

A good day. Ben and Mr Owen went to Gretna and solde their tobacco. It solde very well. They got home a while after twelve eat dinner then went to the saw mill and got a load of lumber.
Marvin and Carrie went to Altavista this evening. Mr Mayhew and Rena went with them also Virginia Harvey.
Josie went up there and kept the children. They left Hazel at home. Josie says that they done fine. I went up to Marvins a little while then come home. Henry come with me. We shucked corn enough to feed on to night and in the morning. Ben has gone up to Marvins to help hunt a mink that killed a chicken this morning.

A good day. Ben hauled lumber from the mill. He brough three loads. Josie sewed some to day. I went to George Blairs. There was no one at home but Denia. George had gone to Gretna with tobacco. The rest of them had gone to Max Creasys burial.
John Dalton was buried this evening. There is more sickness and deaths than I ever heard of in the same length of time. Heard today that Dick Wooding is very sick.
Tonight Ben and Josie has gone to Strait Stone for groceries.

A good day. Ben and Owen hauled a load of lumber from Davis's mill this morning and from Hubbards this evening.
Josie washed some this morning. I got dinner. This evening Grace and Hugh Brumfield and I went to White Falls fishing. Did not catch any thing. Grace carried me on the buggy. I did not get home until dark. I churned tonight. Josie washed dishes.
Ben caught a pig this morning and broke its leg. I hope it may get well.

A good day. Ben and Owen and Marvin helped Mr Dews rais a shed for a pit. I put two panes of glass in the window at the pit. Henry and I shucked two shocks of corn. Josie ironed and got dinner. She baked potato biscuit to night. She baked corn batter bread. I did enjoy it.
Miss Willie Wooding come a while this evening. Richard and Jane Wooding are both sick.
Carrie has two children sick. Marvin loaded his waggon to day intends going to Gretna Monday. Earnest and Lottie Craddock come to Blairs to day.
Ren Worsham and Ben Brumfield has gone to Lynchburg to night. Dont know when to look for them back.

A good day. We all staid at home until twelve then Ben went to Willie Mayhews. Josie and I got dinner.
Josie straitened up in my room and swept the floor. Something that is not often done. I was glad that she did it.
Gladys and Hugh Brumfield Stewart and Delma Owen come to see the children here. I think they had a good time. Irvin Harvey come a few minutes. I did not get to speak to him.
Josie dressed a chicken to night. She thinks now that they will start to school in the morning.
Mr Layne come this morning to get his calf. He couldn't get it to follow him.

A clear colde day. Ben commenced on a room for Owen to day. Josie went to the store and bough some things for Edna this evening.

Ben and Josie is at the barn working on tobacco to night. Marvin went to Gretna today and solde tobacco for a good price. Ben and Josie and Marvin has just come from the barn.

The children went to school except Franklin. He is not well. I hope that he may get well soon.
Kate Harvey come down here to day and eat dinner with us. While she was here we heard that Chesley Edmons was dead. We all are so sorry for them all. The papers tell that peace has bin declared. I do hope that it is true.
Kate got a letter from both of her boys that is in France. Jack is in the hospital hope that he may be well soon. Tonight Ben and Marvin has gone to Level Run guess they will be back soon.

A good day. Ben helped to dig Chesley Edmons grave to day. Josie has bin sick most of the day. She has the head ache to night very bad. Ben and Jim Emerson come here for dinner. I had not fixed any thought Ben would be at Mr Edmons for dinner. We soon got them a snack. Am all ways glad to see Mr Jim. Mrs Jessie and Mrs George Hutcherson stoped in here a while this evening. Murptist Harvey commenced on Marvins frame for his pit to day. Hope he will soon finish it. Ben has gone to Strait Stone to night. 8 oclock Little Edna Jenings was buried to day.

Josie mended some garments this morning. We got a snack for dinner.
This evening I went to see Mollie. She was making a dress for her self. They had a mighty sick pig. I think it will die.

A good day. Ben worked on Owens house a little while this morning. Jim Emerson come and went up on the house and could not find a leak. He was here for dinner. We all but Henry and Edna went to Chesley Edmons burial this evening.
There was a crowd there. He was buried by the odd fellows. I am very sorry for the family. Henry and Edna went to school. Two of the teachers were at the burial.

Before we finished eating breakfast Mr Layne come to get his calf. I got him in the stable and Ben tied him but they could not carry him home he was so stubborn. Ben and Owen lost about two hours time then they went to work.
Ben put a yoke in the cow this morning. Henry and I worked on the fence nearly all the morning. The calves was in the pasture to night. Ben worked on his pigs to day. Doris Brumfield and C Reynolds come a while this evening. Josie planted some hyacinths bulbs to day.
I brought in my daghlia roots this evening.
I put on a pair of new shoes to day. I went up [ink mark]

A cloudy day. Mr Layne was here early this morning after his calf that was here. They caught it and then could not carrie it home. It was so sullen they could not make it go. Ben and Owen lost a bought two hours with it. Ben put a yoke on one of the cows here this morning.
Doris Brumfield and Christenia Reynolds come a while this evening. I went to Carries a few minutes this evening.
Ben and Josie has gone to Lee Brumfields to night.
William Gilbert brough the clothes that Hattie washed after they was gone.

A rainy day. We all staid at home. Mr Dews and Owen and children all come up here and played croquet. I went to Marvins a little while. Marvin went to see the Edmons this evening.
Tom Edmons went back to camp to day.
We had beef steak for breakfast and dinner. Denia sent the beef to Carrie and she sent us part of it. We certainly did enjoy it.

This evening I mended my sweater. Miss Janie and Mrs Gravley come in a few minutes on their way from school. Mr Layne come this morning to try to get his calf home. He could not manage him and he is here yet. Ben got home from Gretna about sundown.

A very rainy day. Miss Janie and the children went to school. Ben has bin complaining all day. He hitched the horses to the waggon and started to meet the children met them nearly at home.

Mrs Carr has bin sick all day. Josie got supper . She cooked a chicken and made cocoanut pies. They were fine. I have set by the fire more than common to day and have enjoyed it. I have had a very good fire tonight for which I am glad.

A good day. Ben and Owen worked on Owens house until twelve then Owen and Ben and Josie went to the school house. They had a play of some sort over there.
Mrs Carr and I staid here with Franklin. John is here tonight Ben went to meet him. He had to go as far as Jim Rolans. The[y] did not get home until after ten.
I heard today that Denia Blair is sick. I do hope that she will soon be well.
Janie Gravley has gone home to night. Mrs Gravley come for her.

A good day. John Brumfield was here. Ben did not do much work. He moved the fence so the cows could go to the straw stacks.
Josie got dinner. She had baked chicken and beef steak. I think we all enjoyed the dinner. Mrs Carr has a bad colde.
This evening Ben carried John to Gretna. I went with them. Tenia met John at Gretna. He said that he would go back to Portsmouth tomorrow.
Willie Mayhew carried his family to Chatham to day on his truck. Gasoline gave out and he got some from Ben to get the truck home.

We are all reasonably well for which I want to feel thankful. There is so much sickness and sorrow in the country.

Tonight Doris Brumfield and Christine Reynolds is here. They come with the children from school. Miss Janie Gravley did not teach to day.

I went to Carries and staid a while. Frances Callans (col'd) helped Carrie to day. Josie staid at home with Franklin. She sewed some.
Heard to day that Willie Mayhew went to Danville for Steven Davis and they looked for him home last night and he had not come yet tonight. I feel uneasy a bout him. I do hope that nothing serious has happened to him. He is one of our best neighbors.

A cloudy day. Ben worked on Owens house. It has bin a busy day with Josie and I. Josie ironed most all day.
I went down to the cook room 15 to four oclock made a fire washed the supper dishes then got breakfast. Called the rest of them then we eat. After breakfast I cut up two pumpkins and put them on to cook then put on some meat to cook fed two calves and brought a bucket of water then milked two cows and sloped the pigs put on a liver and face to make scrappel then churned. Josie made bread and coffee for dinner. I washed up a lot of things and took up the meat for dinner then eat dinner. Took up the pumpkins and meat for scrapple and made the scrappel. Janie Gravley and Lucius Muriel Gravley and Effie Brumfield stopped here a few minutes on their way home from Danville. Well I have not room for any more.

A good day warm for the time of year. Ben worked on Owens house. I went up to Owens this morning a few minutes.
I boiled the last of our beef today. Josie fried dougnuts. We heard that Kate Harvey is sick. I do hope that she may not be sick long.
Think now that I will go to Danville to morrow with Mollie Reynolds.
Ben and Josie and Miss Janie Gravley has all gone to Cedar Forest tonight to get things for a fruit cake.

Josie baked some cakes. I ironed most of the day. The children tried them selves to see how tormenting they could be.
Reese Smith come to day and brough me a box. I have not looked in it yet. Guess it has candy in it.
I wish I knowed how all of the children were feeling to night. There is so much sickness that I am all ways uneasy and looking for some one to get sick.

A good day. The roads is very muddy. Ben hunted some today. He killed four rabbits gave two of them to William Gilbert.
Josie and I staid at home.
Kate and Irvin Harvey come and eat dinner with us. They drove Prince home and Irvin brought him home. I had a letter from John and Effie Brumfield.
Mary Brumfield sent me a book to write in the coming year. Hope I may be able to write in it. Dick Woodings folks gave a party to night.
The children had a good time to day playing with the things they got this morning.
I got several presents was glad of them.

A good day. Ben worked on Owens house this morning.
This evening we all went to Lee Brumfields. They had a very nice dinner turkey and boiled ham cakes and pickles. Elsie East and Isla and Cordie Blair was there.
While we were away some one left some presents for Josie and I.
I got a pair of bed room slippers. John sent them. Paul Bennett sent me a box of nice candy and Grace Brumfield gave me a box of candy. I thank them both.

A cloudy morning clear this evening.
Ben and family went to Jim Powers. Fanny Power come with them home.
I went to Johnson Reynolds they were going to Jim Thompsons. I went with them. I had a pleasant day. Alice had a very nice dinner turkey and olde ham and every thing needful. There was crowd eat dinner all kindfolks. Ben and Fanny Power has gone to Lee Brumfields to night. Guess they will dance.

A colde day. Ben and Fanny Power come home this morning at three oclock.
We had very late breakfast. Ben and Marvin set up Charles and Lillian Brumfields tomb stone.
Ben and Josie went with Fannie home. The children staid here . I got dinner. Carrie Smith come down here a few minutes this evening.
Paul Bennett come a little while this morning. Jim Emerson stopped in a few minutes this morning.

A clear colde day we were all at home this morning. Charley Hutcherson came here a little while this morning.
I went to George Blairs and eat dinner. They had a fine dinner turkey & olde ham and everything else that it takes to make a good meal. They had a lot of company Ben & Josie and the children eat dinner at Carries. They had a good dinner - old ham & custard & cakes of several kinds Ben & Marvin went to Gretna to meet Miss Snead. She is at Lees to night. Whit Short was buried this evening 8 o'clock
A good day Ben & Owen hauled some stalks for the cows. Josie staid at home all day. I went with Marvin & Carie to Ren Worshams We had a very pleasant day Ethel had a good dinner and I certainly did enjoy it I am glad that Ren has a nice good house.
Ben & Josie has gone to Mr Mayhews to a party Virginia & Reubin Reynolds came by on their way to Mayhews. Hugh Brumfield is here to nigh it seems that they can't go to sleep.
I got a letter from Lottie Craddock I am always glad to hear from them
10 o'clock
A cloudy day. Ben & Marvin cut feed at Marvins & at home. Marvin eat dinner with Ben. I went to Marvins and spent the day. Kate Harvey was there two. Carrie had a nice dinner. I went with Kate home to spend the night. Virginia & Irvin went to school. Irvin got a helmet that they called a German helmet. Charles Harvey sent it to him. Heard to day that Mrs. Pleas Worsham is dead. It is with a sad heart that I write for the last time in my little book.
